Hands-on module
Tags and events: send your first events
Push custom events from the page and fire tags on them, plus what GA4 already tracks for free.
So far you've reacted to what GTM and the browser already expose. Now you'll push your own events from the page and fire tags on them, the pattern behind almost all real-world tracking, and see what GA4 measures automatically.
You'll push a custom event and trigger on it, capture modal open/close and FAQ interactions, send GA4's recommended share event, review what Enhanced Measurement covers for free, and use the built-in YouTube trigger.
What you'll learn
- Push a custom event to the dataLayer and fire a tag with a Custom Event trigger
- Capture UI state (modals, accordions) as events
- Send a GA4 recommended event (share)
- Know what GA4 Enhanced Measurement covers, and catch YouTube plays
